Centuries ago, the Celts believed that the vibrant red berries and evergreen leaves of the holly bush brought good fortune and vitality throughout winter.
But why does the colour red feel so Christmas-sy to this day? Well there are a few reasons for that.
First, it is a highly symbolic colour. Most Christians believe that it represents the blood of Jesus Christ during his crucifixion.
It also is a visually strong colour that you cannot fail but notice, which is why Santa’s red suit is so iconic.
And it communicates feelings of strength, confidence, and dynamism, hence its association with love, and by extension with joy. Think of the joy you feel when giving and / or receiving a gift.
But why settle for ‘red’ ? I am throwing you a curveball with my interpretation of the colour in shades of playful oranges instead! You will love it. As joyous but less flamboyant and to be enjoyed all year round, what’s not to like?
