The Timeless Elegance of Easter-Inspired Jewellery
Easter is a time of renewal, celebration, and tradition—and throughout history, it has inspired some of the most breath-taking jewellery creations. From the legendary Fabergé eggs to intricate Victorian religious jewellery, Easter has left its mark on the world of fine jewellery.
In this blog, we will take a deep dive into these iconic Easter-themed pieces, exploring their history, craftsmanship, and symbolism.
The Iconic Fabergé Eggs: A Symbol of Luxury and Heritage
When thinking of Easter jewellery, few creations are as legendary as the Fabergé eggs.
The History of Fabergé Eggs
Commissioned by the Russian Imperial family in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these opulent jewelled eggs were crafted by Peter Carl Fabergé and his artisans. Each egg was a masterpiece of gold, enamel, and precious gemstones, often containing hidden surprises—a miniature palace, a tiny carriage, or even a clock. They are some of the most valuable collectibles in the world today.
The first Fabergé egg, the Hen Egg, was created in 1885 for Tsar Alexander III as a gift for his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna. Inside the white enamel egg was a golden yolk containing a tiny gold hen!
Why Eggs
Eggs have long been associated with fertility, renewal, and resurrection, making them a perfect symbol for Easter. The tradition of gifting decorated eggs dates back centuries, but Fabergé elevated it to an art form, turning them into extraordinary objets d’art.

Religious Jewellery: Crosses, Resurrection Motifs & Egg-Shaped Pendants
Easter is a deeply spiritual and symbolic celebration, and religious jewellery plays a significant role in marking the occasion. Some of the most enduring Easter-related jewellery pieces include cross pendants, egg-shaped lockets, and resurrection symbols.
The Significance of the Cross in Jewellery
The cross is one of the most recognisable symbols in jewellery, representing faith, sacrifice, and redemption.
Types of Cross Jewellery Through History:
- Byzantine Crosses: Ornate and adorned with gemstones, reflecting the grandeur of the Byzantine Empire.
- Victorian Mourning Crosses: Often crafted in black enamel or jet, these crosses symbolized remembrance and devotion.
- Modern Minimalist Crosses: Sleek, understated designs popular today as expressions of faith and style.

Egg-Shaped Jewellery & Resurrection Motifs
Egg-shaped lockets and pendants have been worn throughout history as symbols of new life and rebirth, reflecting Easter’s spiritual significance. Some antique Russian Orthodox pendants even contained miniature religious icons inside.

Victorian & Art Nouveau Easter-Inspired Designs
During the Victorian and Art Nouveau eras (19th–20th century), Easter motifs became particularly popular in jewellery. Nature-inspired themes, such as spring flowers, birds, and butterflies, were often incorporated into brooches, lockets, and rings.
Nature Symbolism in Jewellery
- Daisies & Lilies: Represent purity and renewal, commonly seen in Victorian lockets.
- Swallows & Doves: Birds were symbols of hope and resurrection in Art Nouveau brooches.
- Butterflies: A representation of transformation, found in delicate gold and enamel designs.
