Spring Coil Opera Necklace – Silver & Howlite
What
This stunning Spring Coil Opera Necklace is a one-off, part of the Mystery collection.
The design contrasts and balances the industrial-looking silver spring coils with the natural undyed howlite stone beads.
Originally inspired by the industrial heritage of South East London, especially the iconic architectue of The Thames Barrier and the eye-catching concave metallic roof of its related buildings.
The starting point for this particular necklace was the sourcing of these beautiful quality beads, completely natural with a very attractive grey marbling on white.
They were a statement in their own right so the challenge was to complement them in an creative way. Oxidised silver was an obvious choice in that it enhances the natural beauty of those stones, and reciprocally.
Who for
For those who want a statement necklace for those special occasions where you want to look fabulous but not over the top.
This necklace has a strong personality and will get you admired.
The dark grey / white colour contrast gives a very sophisticated and timeless feel, and is softer than a straight black and white combination. Little beads of shiny hematite add a subtle uplifting sparkle to the whole piece.
You will also like the way the necklace moves and flows – I have arranged the sections of howlite / hematite beads and spring coils to give it extra character and presence.
How to wear it
Also called diaphragm length, this necklace will outline a waist, enhance a bodice, or finish off a very polished look.
Fabulous with a little black dress , try it also with an evening trouser suit for a dramatic look.
The soft colour combination allows you to wear it in any season, so a brilliant choice if you want to invest in key essential pieces.
Substantial enough to be worn on its own but you could try to layer it with shorter necklaces. However these would need to be substantial enough not to ‘disappear’ visually.
Pair it with our matching Spring Coil Stud Earrings, in oxidised silver here.
Materials & their benefits
Fully hand made from sustainable solid sterling silver, natural howlite and hematite.
Each silver spring coil has been formed by hand and oxidised.
The stone beads have been thread onto silver wire. That way you won’t risk stretching the necklace. It also gives the necklace more personality in its movement and flow.
Howlite, also known as Magnesite, is considered a calming stone that can help reduce stress levels. It is also the birthstone for Gemini.
Hematite has very strong grounding energy. It is a zodiac stone for Aries and Aquarius.
Silver provides a steadying influence. It performs a balancing act by drawing negativity from the body while transferring the positive energies of other minerals.
Oxidised sterling silver: the colour will not come off. It is completely safe to wear on your skin, clothes etc. However please note that each item is made by hand and oxidation cannot give 100% identical results each time, which adds charm and character to the piece.

c.80grm total weight. Remains very comfortable to wear with the cooling effect of the beads and the gentle flow of the piece.

Care
Dos
As with any piece of jewellery, when you don’t wear it, keep in a padded box or soft fabric pouch, ideally separate from your other jewellery to avoid scratches.
Safe to clean at home yourself – simply wash with lukewarm water and mild soap. Leave to soak a couple of minutes. Do not scrub or rub. The dirt will fall off at the bottom of the container. Rinse under clear lukewarn water. Pat dry with a soft clean cloth and leave to dry completely before wearing again, or storing.
Note – with this particular design, handle with care. Do not try to stretch or squash or you will risk misshaping the spring coils.
Donts
Do not scrub or rub as this will affect the surface of the metal and the stones.
Do not drop on hard surfaces or you might break the stones.
Avoid hand cream as residues will build up in the little recesses, making them difficult to remove.
