Charm Bracelets

Charm bracelets are such a beautiful way to record personal life events. They are keepsakes of private messages and mementos. With each trinket you create your very own personalised jewellery.

I have designed a delightful range of charm bracelets to help you celebrate that special someone.

Charm Bracelets

Get personal with charm bracelets.

It all started with the tradition of wearing charms for protection, eg for good luck, or against the evil eye. Hence the terms ‘amulets’ and ‘talismans’.

Charms were also used for identification, eg. family origin or religious and political convictions.

Today their meanings and purposes have extended so much that virtually anything can become a ‘charm’ or a ‘trinket’ in the eyes of the wearer.

Charm bracelets are records of one’s life

Charm bracelets were made particularly fashionable by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. She adored wearing and also gifting charm bracelets. She would eg celebrate the birth of each of her children with a new charm that she would add to her existing collection already dangling from her bracelet.

They are keepsakes of personal messages and mementos. Effectively each dangling adornment has been chosen for a reason, yours. It is an intensely personal choice that resonates with you and represents who you are as a person, your life events, your likes, your beliefs. You can mix all those amulets onto the same bracelet, or create ‘themed bracelets’. For example, you could have one around your travels, another one based on your hobbies and a third one on your family and friends.

Charm bracelets make perfect gifts

Charm bracelets show that you have a deep connection with the person you are gifting it to. You know them inside out. There is no better way to show that you care by offering something meaningful and long lasting.

They also save you from last minute panic buys. Each new charm is an easy gift option. Try not to make it too obvious though! A little mindfulness goes a long way.

What’s more they are wallet-friendly as you can grow the collection of trinkets as and when, which means that you can spread the cost across a longer period than a one-off for the whole set.

Charm bracelets by Essemgé

Charms add personality. They also add playfulness, movement and colour, making each bracelet absolutely unique. You will love admiring your wrists as the charms gently dangle, chime and play in the light.

They have the power to transform a simple bangle into a delightful piece of tactile fidget jewellery that can help the wearer be mindful and focused.

I have designed a series of precious and sophisticated charm bracelets that can be worn alone or stacked with multiple other bracelets. You can look and find your ideal combination in the other Bracelets categories here.

I have used only sustainably sourced quality materials including natural stones, both for their unique beauty and their spiritual qualities.

The idea behind the overall look and feel of the collection is to have harmony and balance between the bangle and the charm. I wanted to give the bangle as much visual impact as the charm itself. I have deliberately chosen a single charm to take the bangle beyond its role of being just a ‘hanger’. By the same token, the charm is substantial enough to stand alone and yet bring the whole bracelet alive.

Care instructions specific to this type of bracelets:

  • their bulk means that they can ‘get in the way’, especially if you need to do a lot of manual work. That can be dangerous for you and permanently damage the jewellery
  • they can also get caught in your garment, so beware when wearing this type of bracelet with certain textiles or textures such as knitwear. If that happens, just gently nudge the charms free. Don’t pull forcefully as again it may damage both the garment and the jewellery
  • lastly, try not to ‘dip’ them inadvertently into anything really! If that happens quickly wipe to remove the bulk of the dirt. Then when home, follow the same care instructions as usual: soak into soapy lukewarm water for a few minutes so that the remaining dirt falls off. If there are any residue, use a very soft toothbrush. Rinse under clear water, pat dry and leave to dry completely before storing away until next time you wear it.
